Stepping into the iconic role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a dream come true for actor Alix Wilton Regan. In this exclusive interview, Regan shares her excitement and insights into bringing the beloved British cultural icon to life once again.
Regan describes Lara as a symbol of confidence and empowerment, a character that has resonated with audiences worldwide. She emphasizes the character's global appeal, stating, 'Lara is a British cultural icon, she’s a global icon. She is loved and I love her as much as everyone else, so I’m ecstatic.'
The actor is not only reprising her role in Legacy of Atlantis but also in the upcoming Tomb Raider: Catalyst, where she will portray an older Lara. Regan acknowledges the challenge of maintaining distinct portrayals of Lara at different ages, explaining, 'You break them down as much as possible. You ask your collaborators to help you keep track of it because it is tricky. We’re trying to do something different with the voice in each game.'
One of the highlights of the Legacy of Atlantis remake is the inclusion of iconic lines from the original Tomb Raider, with Regan noting, 'We’ve lifted some of the most iconic lines from the first Tomb Raider,' and expressing her enthusiasm for 'Just getting to play those lines with kind of that 90s sass being brought up to 2026.'
Regan also mentions the demanding mocap work, which involves long shooting sessions, up to three weeks at a time. She humorously recalls, 'You get a bit hot and sweaty and extremely intimate with your costars doing ten hours in a mocap suit.' Despite the challenges, Regan finds inspiration in Lara's on-screen presence, stating, 'I spend a lot of time looking at Lara's little avatar on screen... She is so smoking hot! I think we can all agree on that.'
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is set to release on February 12, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. Fans can stay tuned for more updates and immerse themselves in the world of Lara Croft at IGN Live 2026.
